Abstract: This dissertation investigates ethnographically how catalog sales make up the life
strategies and social arrangements of women living in the Complexo da Maré, in the North
Zone of Rio de Janeiro. The structure of this analysis is divided into three chapters. In the first
chapter, I describe how catalog retailing participates in the plural commerce of Maré, based on what I call retail spaces, the circulation of retailers throughout the territory and the particular relationship they establish with magazines between the online and physical formats. In the second chapter, I analyze the uses and meanings of what I identify as resale money. To do this, I look at money flows to understand how life strategies and sales strategies are intertwined. The third chapter looks at the emotional investment made by resellers in carrying out this activity, based on specific emotions and sensations: pleasure and headaches. I conclude that catalog resellers in Complexo da Maré produce and reproduce diverse and complex ways of making a living on a daily basis, which are crossed by material and subjective issues.

Abstract: Education can be thought of as a way to qualify individuals to take on specific positions
in the job market. However, men and women with the same educational background transition to occupations in different ways. We demonstrate in this research that women have links with more specific labor markets than men. We also found, through logistic regressions models, that the greater the connection, the greater the probability of female participation in the labor market, which indicates the importance of accurately informing the specific occupational destinations that women can be allocated when choosing a career, for example. In addition, using both panel models and M-index decompositions, we demonstrate that the level-fields that expanded the most were those that had more specific connections, however, due to an opposite movement of loss of specificity of these level-fields during its growth, the final effect of educational expansion was neutralized, which caused the specificity of the link between area-levels and occupations to decrease over the period from 1980 to 2010 in Brazil

Abstract: This dissertation is an analysis of the specialized literature in the Pereira Passos’ reform from the 1980s to 2020. The objective of this work is to understand how this literature analyzed the event of the reform, its impacts and changes in the urban space of Rio. From reflections promoted by historical anthropology, I have as hypothesis that this literature built the Pereira
Passos’ reform as an event that configures the myth of origin of the broken city. With characteristics that pass hegemonically each decade analyzed, I opted for the decanal separation of the period for the analysis of the specialized literature. As a main feature of production during the 1980s, this literature has established the vision in which sees the reform Pereira Passos as a myth that, through the policies of removal, contributed to the spatial segregation of Rio de Janeiro, mainly by the resulting from the reform. During the 1990s, the focus of the analysis on the urban reform from the turn of the nineteenth century to the twentiethon the hygienist ideology, which contributed to a moral segregation of the territory, based onstigmatizing notions of contamination. Since the 2000s, the literature has a racial turn, with racial issues involved in the reform process being discussed central way. All these themes, recurrent in the decades analyzed, were discussions based on the present. However, what I could observe during the research, the ideas presented by the reform researchers Pereira Passos contributed to the narrative construction of the carioca society, through the mechanisms established during the on the reform from the construction of this event as an amalgamator of processes segregation imposed on the urban network. Therefore, I believe that this literature has organized beyond a myth, an analytical model that structured the historical image of Rio de Janeiro as a broken city.

Abstract: In the cense of 2010 in Brazil, was verified that the pentecostal evangelical population
has grow in all the biggers urban centres of the country. By the preaching the salvation in the
form of prosperity, the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God (IURD) stimulate the
entrepreneurial work. The proposal of this dissertation focuses the localization in the spaces of exchange identified by the field work, the demarcation process of the model of modern person built through the what I considered to be a new pedagogy in curse. For that, I focused
investigations in three groups formed inside the IURD: The group of Workwoman / work-bee
(obreira), the group of the girls of the pastor ́s wife and the School for the Brides. This spaces
are giving to the female public similar guidelines those offered by school of good manners to
the young girls of the second half of the twentieth century. My proposal consists in to localize
social changes not only in the level of the main historical changes, but in the everyday
interactions and in the formations that from them have been designing. More than other
churches preachers of the prosperity theology, as pointed out Lima (2007a), the IURD imprints a pedagogical tone to their cults, I believe that pedagogical tone goes beyond of the cults, being impress too in the Other spaces of exchange of the church.
