Abstract: This dissertation aims to analyze the dynamics through which ex-prisoners and young people living in the city's favelas, vulnerable to marginalization, can establish social reintegration, and in the case of ex-employees, (re)socialization, through the sport of boxing. The context of urban violence in Rio de Janeiro is intrinsically linked to the so-called "war on drugs" and the process of criminalization of poverty, resulting in a necropolitical system that perpetuates the exclusion and marginalization of certain social groups, especially black and poor people. This "war" strengthened repressive practices and punitive selectivity, contributing to the mass incarceration of these groups. In this research, an analysis was carried out through observant participation, examining the trajectories of boxing teachers engaged in social projects focused on this sporting practice in Rio's favelas. We explore how boxing not only offers a leisure and physical activity, but also serves as a means of valuing epistemic models, rescuing subjectivity and building community ties based on horizontality, thus contributing to social transformation within these historically marginalized communities.

Abstract: This is the dissertation presented as a partial requirement to obtain the Master's degree, for the Postgraduate Program in Education, Culture and Communication in Peripheries, at the State University of Rio de Janeiro. Line of Research: Education, Social Movements and Differences. This ethnographic study aims to investigate the cultural circles of Hip Hop in Baixada Fluminense in order to understand whether they exert a decolonial pedagogical potential in the territory. Based on the understanding of Hip Hop as a product of the black diaspora, which carries characteristics of African culture and opposes a hegemonic culture, I focus this study on understanding the relationships that Hip Hop cultural circles establish with the territory of Baixada Fluminense. A youth engaged in the production of cultural circles in a place with low investment in culture, builds a cultural movement capable of educating many other young people. It uses the wisdom of cultural studies authors such as Paul Gilroy and Stuart Hall, authors who theorize decoloniality such as Aníbal Quijano, authors who dialogue Hip Hop with the black diaspora, such as Halifu Osumare and King Nino Brown, who bring pedagogy as freedom, like Paulo Freire and finally, those who talk about Hip Hop in Baixada Fluminense, like Dudu de Morro Agudo or the documentary by Arthur Calazans.

Abstract: This research presents reflections on how the municipality of Duque de Caxias implemented educational policies for people with disabilities. The main objective was to analyze the work of the Special Education Team of the Municipal Department of Education of Duque de Caxias, materialized in the project “Seeking a School Open to Diversity”, during the period 2001–2007. As a theoretical framework, we adopted historical-dialectical materialism, which enabled a critical analysis of the implementation of inclusive policies. The methodology consisted of a bibliographic survey and analysis of theses and dissertations on special and inclusive education in Duque de Caxias, available on the Capes database; a survey of municipal legislation on the subject; and the examination of documents prepared and developed by the Special Education Team within the project. The results indicate that the team at the Municipal Department of Education made a significant effort to implement inclusive policies in the municipality, promoting teacher training and pedagogical systematizations on the subject. However, the document produced by the team adopts as its theoretical framework the ideology of hegemonic liberal inclusive policies, which present limitations in addressing inequalities related to access, permanence, and the quality of public education, without pointing out possible criticisms or weaknesses of such public policy.

Abstract: This dissertation discusses the relationship between political democracy and the democratic
management of education and schools, considering the National Education Plan and the
Municipal Education Plan of São João de Meriti (2014–2024), with a particular focus on Target 19 of these plans and the unfolding political crisis that led to the impeachment of President Dilma Rousseff in 2016. It seeks to understand how the republican experience of democracy in Brazil relates to democratic and educational principles, especially within the interactions between schools and their communities through collegiate and deliberative spaces. It also examines the socioeconomic and political context of São João de Meriti, located in the Baixada Fluminense region—a peripheral territory marked by social inequalities and a fragile presence of public power. Finally, it discusses the mismatches between the National and Municipal Education Plans of São João de Meriti, using theoretical references from the political history of education and educational planning.
