Abstract: In Brazil, from the 1970s onwards, post-colonial studies began to reverberate an interest about the colonized peoples history and the academic space began to develop researches in which the aesthetic dimension of the material culture of indigenous peoples was widely analyzed and, consequently, the discussions about ways of approaching this materiality by cultural institutions. Since that, the dominant discourse has been revisited by the academy and also questioned through the articulation of indigenous, who claim their right to memory and also to a full contemporary existence. As they participated in the construction of this dominant narrative, cultural institutions have been assuming their role in what can be called a decolonial task. Considering James Clifford’s (1988) writings, which emphasizes that “the very status of museums as historical-cultural theaters of memory” came to be questioned, in other words, “Whose memory? For what purposes?”, that gets an idea of how deep are the provocations launched at the institutions. And, in this sense, negotiation fields and dialogue between research, institutions and indigenous interlocutors develop and, in turn, produce new otherness management modalities. Among these new modalities, this research analyzes shared curating, namely, this encounter between colonizers and colonized who negotiate terms and share authority to, finally, occupy the institutional space. And, for this purpose, the exhibitions “Dja Guata Porã: Rio de Janeiro Indígena”, held by Rio de Janeiro Art Museum between May 2017 and March 2018, and “Véxoa: Nós sabemos”, held by Pinacoteca de São Paulo between November 2020 and March 2021, are some case studies. This analysis considers the possibilities and advances that unfold from the shared curatorship, as well as the controversies and challenges that arise throughout this process

Abstract: This work focuses on one of the most important subject of Andean artistic production: the arquebusiers angels. Developed by local artists in the Andean region, between the 17th and 18th centuries in the Viceroyalty of Peru, these angels were represented holding one of the most common weapons in the early 17th century, the arquebus, along with a richly detailed outfit. It is important to understand the social environment in which they were made. They reflect the transculturation process that took place in the Andes, in which reinterpretations became the result of gradual redefinitions of symbols of cultures that were suppressed by the Conquest, which had to be adapted to homogenizing forces. The image of the angel holding a gun emphasizes the idea that the Church and the Spanish colonial regime were united in their goal of Christianizing the indigenous Andean population. Analyzing these issues leads to the conclusion that local artists traced their own paths within the consequences of the actions of the Conquest

Abstract: This work focuses on the discussion about the construction of the connoisseur's profession over the years, establishing relationships that can be seen from the 15th to the 20th century. From an approach that goes back to classical antiquity and the Renaissance, I point to these relationships, seen mainly through the culture of collecting and antiquarianism, which were important to the consolidation of the figure of this professional. In addition, I present an approach to the figure of Giulio Mancini and to the discussion about the foundation of connoisseurship. Finally, at the turn of the 19th to the 20th century, I analyze the functions attributed to this professional and his way of acting, exemplified by the works and methods of analysis of Giovanni Morelli and Bernard Berenson

Abstract: This master's dissertation proposes an exercise in looking at the production of black and non-white artists in the emergence of contemporaneity that can, at the same time, honor the memory of those who came before and who were affected for the drama of recognition in their careers and contradicting the racist logic that delegitimizes such production, leading them to a systematic erasure in the history of art. Based on the reflections of several intellectuals, especially black intellectuals, who elaborate analyzes on the main problems and symptoms of ethnic-racial and gender relations, both in the field of art and in society as a whole, it expresses the desire to investigate ways and possibilities of articulation whose main purpose is to guarantee the circulation and reception of such a diverse production, rejecting categorizations loaded with prejudices and stereotypes.
