Abstract: This work focuses on events central to feminist movements in Brazil, based on the analysis of news published in three distinct social contexts throughout the 20th century in the Rio/São Paulo axis: the I Women's Art Exhibition (I Salão Feminino de Arte), in 1931, which allowed for the investigation of women's academic and professional insertion in the struggle for the right to vote; the interview with actress Leila Diniz in 1969, granted to O Pasquim and whose emphasis was on body liberation, sexuality, and free love; and finally, the 3rd Encontro Feminista da América Latina e Caribe, in 1985, in Bertioga, São Paulo, during a time when the demands of Black women began to fuel intersectional discussions. It is an attempt, therefore, to understand how the memories of feminisms were constructed, with their ruptures and continuities. The objective is to understand which emotions were operating in the news coverage of these historical events about feminist movements? Starting from this general research problem, the thesis discusses, based on the Anthropology of Emotions, particularly the contextualist approach proposed by Catherine Lutz and Lila Abu-Lughod, the place attributed to emotions in journalistic discourse, recognizing the sociocultural constructions and forms of social action that, when manifested in situated discourses, model the very reality they describe. The research confirmed that the memory of feminisms is an inherently ethical and political construction and the press participated in the fabrication of these memories over the century: sometimes celebrating a "well-behaved" struggle, sometimes stigmatizing "passionate and angry activism." The strategic use of insurgent emotions and discourses that qualify women, such as the reaffirmation of beauty and the consequent weakening of the dimension of intelligence and professionalism in 1931, Leila’s jocularity in 1969, and the angry and nonconformity of Bertioga in 1985, demonstrated how new political subjects attempt to forge their own memories, challenging the narrative of patriarchal control. In the 1930s, the conflict centered on women's capacity, with the mobilization of enthusiasm and intelligence to challenge the disqualification of the female gender in the professional field, while in the 1960s, the conflict moved to morality, with jocularity and joy acting as tactics of cultural infiltration to destabilize the sexual norm in an authoritarian regime.

Abstract: The dissertation presents the development and application of Racial Discrepancy Index (IDRA), an analytical tool designed to measure the disparities in key social indicators between black and white populations in Brazil. Grounded in a multidimensional approach, the IDRA integrates these key indicators related to health, education, and income, synthesizing them into an accessible metric that reveals inequalities in living conditions and opportunities. Through an analysis of the Brazilian Federative units over a ten-year historical series, the dissertation maps racial disparities, identifying regional patterns and trends in the persistence, reduction, or widening of the gap between black and white populations in terms of social conditions.

Abstract: This study investigates the links between gender and care in living with Cutaneous Leishmaniasis, based on the experiences of six women from rural communities in Baixo Sul of Bahia, where the disease is endemic. Based on narratives, the research explores life stories and care practices in Alto Alegre, Corte de Pedra and São Paulinho, in the municipalities of Tancredo Neves and Teolândia. The research highlights the impacts of the disease and the ways in which these women construct knowledge and mobilise care networks in their territories. However, their leading role in local dynamics occurs in the midst of challenges related to treatment, which is unsuitable for the local reality, whether due to difficulties in adapting, interference in daily life or the need for mobility in order to continue. Their stories offer a broader perspective on the local reality, showing how health, gender and social organisation are intertwined. Faced with state neglect and the absence of effective public policies, these women transform everyday challenges into practices of resistance. In a context of structural inequalities, their experiences highlight the power of their knowledge and the centrality of care in building collective responses to community life.

Autor: Pereira, Marcia Menezes Thomaz

Abstract: This thesis presents an analysis regarding the content of gender themes present in Sociology teaching textbook approved by PNLD 2018. The aim of the work was to understand not only what is selected and produced for the school, through this material, but also the phenomenon of its inclusion itself, considering the scenario of conservative reaction mainly due to the positioning of groups that have accused the presence of supposed indoctrination in schools based on what they call “gender ideology”. To this end, the research was based on the qualitative methodology of content analysis of teaching textbooks and other educational documents about the teaching of Sociology, as well as semi-structured interviews with the authors of the didactic works that make up the research sample. It was found that although gender is not a category prescribed in the official curricular documents for teaching the subject, there was a tendency to expand themes, authors, concepts and theories crossed by the gender perspective in these works throughout the editions of the PNLD in that Sociology participated, but which was interrupted with the change in political and pedagogical orientation that occurred in the 2021 edition. This expansion, however, did not occur in the same way in all the works analyzed. A direct relationship could be seen between the privileging of this content, organized into exclusive chapters dedicated to gender, in works whose authorship has a direct relationship with the school, that is, they are basic education teachers. In these books, the themes that stand out are those that emphasize the collective action that is formed in response to the sociological problem of gender inequality: feminisms, sexualities and violence, which mark the influence of political agendas around gender. Books whose authorship has no direct relationship with the school, made up of university professors, present this content in a transversal way, with exclusive sections or not, but without chapters for gender. In these books, the themes that stand out are those that emphasize the origins of this inequality, in which family and work are privileged spaces to reflect on the sexual division of labor and its impacts, marking the influence of the most established academic agendas around of gender. This distinction does not represent exclusions, only emphases. Therefore, it is concluded that all the books analyzed contribute, in the midst of a scenario of so many controversies, to circumvent the mythification and misinformation surrounding this content, contributing to affirm the scientific character of the genre in the face of its disqualification, in addition to offering legitimization support for teachers who are talking about gender at school.
