Uma abordagem linguístico-expressiva das Casas de Hogwarts na saga Harry Potter e sua contribuição para o ensino

Abstract

In this research, we intend to analyze, in the mode linguistic-expressive, the Houses of Hogwarts in the translation of the Harry Potter saga (2000-2007), originally written in English by Joanne Kathleen Rowling from 1997 to 2007. The transposition of the books into Portuguese aimed to preserve, as much as possible, the meaning of the original terms related to the Houses (Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, and Slytherin), as well as the sense of their characteristics, primarily expressed in the Sorting Hat's songs. Therefore, the objective is to identify, in the translation, the lexicon in the name and description of the Houses, as well as the symbolism of their emblems, magical objects, and colors, returning, when necessary, to the original English etymology. It is also essential to examine the correlation between verbal and non-verbal language in the association between the Houses' characteristics and their symbols in constructing meaning. Thus, through a linguistic-expressive approach, it will be possible to verify whether the description of the Houses corresponds to their names and their associated symbols. The main theoretical references that underpin this research encompass Jakobson's (2010) considerations about the Communication Theory, as well as those of Câmara Jr. (1978; 2015) regarding the structure of the Portuguese language and stylistics. In order to trace the expressive path of the work, the book of Nilce Sant’Anna Martins, "Introduction to Stylistics" (2012), proves to be highly relevant, and, for the analysis of meanings, the "Dictionary of Symbols" (2019) by Jean Chevalier and Alain Gheerbrant is equally important. Through the approach undertaken, we intend to propose ways to use the Harry Potter saga in Portuguese language teaching and reading practice, taking into account the content outlined in official documents such as the BNCC (2018), the PCNs (1998), the LDB (1996), and the DCNs (2013). In this regard, the contributions of Abreu (2012), Cosson (2022) and Lerner (2002) indicate possible paths and are fundamental for the suggestions presented
