“O alvo é sempre a gente”: a representação social de moradoras da Maré acerca das ações policiais

Abstract

This research investigated the Social Representations of the residentes in Maré, concerning the actions from the police in the territory where they live. The research was carried out in the set of “favelas” from Maré and was based on the Theory of Social Representations, developed by Serge Moscovici (1961), according to the perspective of the culturalist approach of Denise Jodelet (1989). The methodology used was qualitative research and the instrument adopted for data collection was the semi-directed interview, in which 16 women, living in different favelas that make up Maré, were interviewed. Thematic Content Analysis was used (BARDIN, 2010). Through the analysis it became evident that the police actions that take place in the territory of Maré are responsible for serious violations of fundamental human rights that affect the residents of that territory. Police actions affect basic rights such as health and education that are systematically paralyzed. Such representations were anchored and objectified in conceptions linked to the racial, social and emotional sphere.This research respectfully tries to bring reflections that contribute to the deconstruction of stereotypes that surround Maré, as well as the other slums and peripheries that make up the city. In this research, we look at the most diverse rights violations that affect thousands of people just because they are part of that territory. We also seek to look at the potential and the lives present in their reality.
