Abstract: | The aim of this dissertation is to analyze the representations of the body through the scenic writing in Doug Wright's I am my own wife and in the adaptation of Caio Fernando Abreu s Lady of the night to the theater. From a comparative perspective, the approach of the construction of the feminine image not only exposes the mechanisms of interpretation and politicization of the body, but also inquires the process of subjectivity construction designed by the paper bodies. The readings of the body are made in dialogues with the propositions of Michel Foucault, Gilles Deleuze, Tania Navarro-Swain, Erving Goffman, Josette Féral, Judith Butler, among others. It is important to notice that theatrical metaphors are present throughout this work, and they are often focused on the narrowing of reality and fiction perceptions. Therefore, the idea of documentary body is instigated concerning the building of the female image in the scene. Through the formulations of Jacques Rancière, we discuss the reason of fictions and the reason of facts, undoing the allegories around contemporary fiction in order to put it at the service of the documentary tone assumed by the corpora of this research. According to the transitory character of the processes, our conclusion indicates that the self is redone in resumptions of the corporeal surface after moments in which it is submitted to the layers of social injunctions |
